Why We Are Losing The American Dream

Posted by on Friday, October 3, 2014,
Republican policies do not work. We have tried them every which way and they fail each time. They didn’t work just before the Great Depression. They didn't work under the Bush administration which caused the Great Recession. They are failing in  states with Republican governers such as Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and New Jersey who have slashed taxes for the wealthy and corporations and are now in deep financial trouble. The problem isn't that these governors failed to i...

The Truth About Wealth Re-Distribution and Taxes

Posted by on Tuesday, March 5, 2013,
The shill politicians that represent the Republican Party today are nothing more than hollow puppets for groups like the Koch Brothers American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), Grover Norquist’s group Americans For Prosperity and others that facilitate a movement of wealth. While those on the far right accuse Obama and Democrats of being socialists and wanting income re-distribution, it has already occurred. Some of us have tried to illustrate how the wealth in the United States has bee...

A Message to Congress Regarding "Entitlements"

Posted by on Saturday, January 5, 2013,
Not surprisingly, when it comes to deficit reduction and spending, the only thing the GOP mentions cutting is "entitlements"-- benefits that Americans have EARNED and have kept our elderly from sinking into the despair of poverty. Yes, health care costs are rising out of control but that is due to the for-profit factor. Republicans have long wanted to do dismantle Medicare (and Social Security) to turn it over to feed the voracious and damaging appetite of Wall St. However, neither SS no...

Yes, Republicans, President Obama Really DOES Have a Mandate!

Posted by on Wednesday, November 7, 2012,
Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News last night after Obama's win, “...this is not a mandate in the number [of electoral votes]...”

Fox News repeated the "no mandate" line several times throughout the night after the results came in.

Twitter was ablaze with comments from the right echoing the "he has no mandate" refrain.

Herman Caine tweeted that, "Obama won on Popularity", as if that were a bad thing. Apparently, Mr. Caine is unaware of how elections work.

This has ...

Rolling Stone
lays it out:

It was tempting to dismiss Mitt Romney's hard-right turn during the GOP primaries as calculated pandering. In the general election – as one of his top advisers famously suggested – Romney would simply shake the old Etch A Sketch and recast himself as the centrist who governed Massachusetts. But with the selection of vice-presidential nominee Paul Ryan, the shape-shifting Romney has locked into focus – cementing himself as the frontman for the far-right partisan...

35 Excellent Questions for Mitt Romney

Posted by on Tuesday, July 17, 2012,
TJ Walker, of Forbes, posed 35 questions that Mitt Romney needs to answer relating to his involvement with Bain Capital, his sole claim to fame as a job creator.

Mitt Romney insists that he is not responsible for any of the decisions made by Bain after February 1999. In particular, those decisions that led to bankruptcy
, shut down factories, dumped workers' pensions on the backs of tax payers and outsourced thousands of jobs overseas, while Bain and Romney walked away with hundreds of million...

The Abandonment of the Middle Class...

Party of the Rich
The nation is still recovering from a crushing recession that sent unemployment hovering above nine percent for two straight years. The president, mindful of soaring deficits, is pushing bold action to shore up the nation's balance sheet. Cloaking himself in the language of class warfare, he calls on a hostile Congress to end wasteful tax breaks for the rich.

"We're going to close the unproductive tax loopholes that allow some of the truly wealthy to avoid paying their fair share," h...

Deficits, Spending, Taxes and Gas Prices Are All On the Decline

According to Michael Linden, Director for Tax and Budget Policy, Federal spending is lower now than it was when President Obama took office. Linden shared the following in a recent column:

In January 2009, before President Obama had even taken the oath of office, annual spending was set to total 24.9 percent of gross domestic product. Total spending this year, fiscal year 2012, is expected to top out at 23.4 percent of GDP.

Here’s another interesting fact. Taxes today are lower than th...

WHY DO NEARLY HALF of AMERICANS PAY NO FEDERAL INCOME TAX?

Posted by on Wednesday, May 2, 2012,

You may have heard the claim that about half of Americans pay no Federal Income Tax. That’s a true fact. Slightly less than  50% of all households paid no Federal Income Tax in 2012. The number one reason should come as no surprise. It’s because they have low incomes.

I'd like to remind those who whine that, "46% of people don't pay Federal Income Taxes", that, in fact, that group pays exactly what a Millionaire pays on that same first share of their earned income. In other words, if you w...

THE TRUTH ABOUT RISING GAS PRICES

Posted by on Thursday, February 23, 2012,
Though oil demand is at its lowest since 1997, oil prices (and gas prices along with them) are once again on the rise and the GOP wants even more handouts to Big Oil.

Analysts project that gas prices will top $4 a gallon nationally and perhaps reach record highs later this year.  Despite relatively low demand and surging production levels in the U.S., prices are rising due to a variety of factors, including instability in the Middle East, but even more so, unregulated Wall Street speculation...

Conservative Economist Bruce Bartlett wrote "the bible" for the Reagan Revolution, worked on domestic policy for the Reagan White House and served as a top treasury official under the first President Bush. Bartlett argues that right-wing tax policies -- pushed in part by Grover Norquist and Tea Party activists -- are destroying the country's economic foundation.

THE UNRECOGNIZABLE REPUBLICANS: How the GOP lost its way.

Posted by on Thursday, November 10, 2011,

Theodore Roosevelt was a long-time leader of the Republican party, and U.S. President (1901-1909)

"The Republican Party has totally abdicated its job in our democracy, which is to act as the guardian of fiscal discipline and responsibility. They're on an anti-tax jihad – one that benefits the prosperous classes."  -- Republican David Stockman, who served as budget director under Reagan.

It's difficult to imagine today, but taxing the rich wasn't always a major flash point of American politic...

HERMAN CAIN: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire

Posted by on Wednesday, October 19, 2011,
Only the wealthy would benefit from GOP Presidential Primary Candidate Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan.

The Tax Policy Center has released its analysis of Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan, and it finds that the only people who would benefit from it are those making more than $200,000 a year. Everyone else, especially the poor, would pay more. And the middle class would now have the highest effective federal tax rate.

Those making $1 million a year or more would get a tax cut of nearly $500,000, a 15% change...
